Recently I've been finding myself discussing my love for print - stationary, books, photographs, etc., and how I am one of the ones who worries about paper diminishing in this society thanks to emails, kindles, blogs, etc. Nick reminded me that while people think having a kindle is "environmentally friendly" because it reduces paper waste, reality is that the production and disposal of computer-related products is extremely harmful to the environment too, if not more so. I am still trying to reduce my ecological footprint in this world (such as using rags instead of paper towels and refusing paper bags from the grocery store when possible), but I don't think I can give up my love for other forms of paper. I love snail mail. I love my books displayed in my living room and I dream of a wall-to-wall, floor-to-ceiling bookshelf someday. I love the feeling of a gleaming and fresh notebook that has yet to meet the touch of my pen. I figure if I can focus on reducing paper waste in other aspects of my life, I can still enjoy the sentimental keepsakes of the paper products that are so important to me.
