conquering my bookshelf.

A few weeks ago, I had to make a pact with myself. No more buying books. On top of that, no cheating and going to the library instead.

I've mentioned before that I love book collections and when I picture my dream house, the first thing that comes to mind is a floor-to-ceiling, wall-to-wall bookshelf. The problem is...I haven't even read everything I own. This is partly due to half the books belonging to Nick, but also because I just keep getting more books. I buy them at airports, I receive them as gifts, I borrow from friends. The ratio of reading:collecting is not working out in my favor. So, as of a month ago, I made a personal goal to only read books that are sitting right on my own shelf, in my own living room, desperate to be noticed and chosen and loved. This will be a daunting task as school is about to begin again (I read least frequently between September and May), and because there are so many new books coming out every day that I am dying to get my hands on. But the hard cold truth is that a book collection means so much more if you have a personal experience with each piece in it. And so, my friends, that is precisely my goal.

And in case you're wondering, I'm currently finishing up The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society which my dear cousin Nicole sent me in the mail over a year ago. Progress!

Good luck! I will take a page out of your book (pun intended) and finish Freedom...ugh.
