Ever since Nick and I started discussing a very real
possibility of moving to the west coast next year, I was suddenly overwhelmed
with a feeling of anxiety. Am I making the most of my time here? Have I done
everything I want to do?
So I took it upon myself to make an effort to be more
adventurous in this city. We have discovered a lot of favorite spots over the
past year and a half which has resulted in repeat adventures. While we will
likely continue to visit our favorite spots (nothing says “home” like having
such spots anyway, am I right?), we have also started to try new things.
A few weekends ago, Nick and I rode our bikes out to Corona
Park. We had visited the park before to see the Mets play at Citifield, but we
noticed how big the park was and thought maybe there would be some other cool
things to check out. Sure enough, the first thing we encountered upon riding
into the park was Arthur Ashe stadium where the US Open was taking place. There
were people everywhere and the grounds were decorated in beautiful gardens and
statues. Just down the walkway from the stadium was the Unisphere – a huge and
magnificent fountain that I didn’t even know existed. It was so nice to
discover such a cool roaming place so near our home. We rode along the ponds
and looked at the geese and the best part about it all was that we got an
excellent workout.

Last weekend, on the same day that my friend Anthony and I
decided to have a fall harvest party, we took a trip down to the High Line
earlier in the afternoon. It’s a mellow thing to do – casually stroll down an
elevated walkway and check out the different apartment buildings, the gardens,
and the funky and random pieces of art. It was fun and new.

We exited the High Line on 14th
street and I realized I was in the Meatpacking District – a Manhattan
neighborhood that I don’t think I had ever stepped foot in before. Mere seconds later, we basically bumped shoulders with Julianne Moore. Talk about a good decision.
Anyway, my goal to explore is off to a good start. I just dread the idea of someday telling someone I lived in
New York City for two years but didn't do so many of the things I could have. I plan to make the most out of this next
year and if for some reason, Nick and I are still here next summer, then it will just
mean I have that much more time to check out more amazing things that this city
has to offer.
