So, over Labor Day Weekend, the Amabile family and I were sitting in the backyard over dinner and drinks and having a grand old time when Nick, his sister Rachel, and I started talking about our workout regimens. We discussed what we liked and didn't like and what we were trying to get better at. Nick suddenly suggested that the family should run in the Troy Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving Day. The reaction from the rest of us was overly enthusiastic. The next morning, I wondered how serious we had all been since a couple bottles of wine had been involved at the time of Nick's suggestion. Yet, here we are, several weeks later, registered and ready to run a 5k bright and early on Thanksgiving morning!
I have a confession to make. Until this past weekend, I had been running in a pair of running shoes that only cost me $30. On top of that...I bought them in 2007. Runners galore would cringe at this statement and I knew that my shoes weren't making the cut in helping me to be a good runner. So Saturday afternoon, Nick and I slipped into the neighborhood Foot Locker and I found myself an upgrade to splurge on. They are silly looking and oh-so-pink but the difference in how they feel when I put them on is phenomenal. I couldn't believe I had been running in such a shoddy pair of running shoes for so long! Walking out of the store with my purchase in tow, I was actually excited to go use them as soon as possible. I was reminded that in order to get into the mentality of something, whether it's exercising more, picking up a hobby, eating healthier or what have you, you really have to buy into it...literally. When school started in September, I was so busy that I stopped blogging, reading my leisure book, and going to the gym. Registering for the Turkey Trot pushed me to be more assertive in finding time to work out and now these new shoes are upping the excitement factor.
