party in the ASL
I thought this video would be fun for those of you who are not familiar with American Sign Language. Many people think that sign language is a word-to-word transcription of the spoken language but nothing could be further from the truth. In this video, Stephen Torrence, who has several "music videos" on YouTube, signs along to Miley Cyrus' song "Party in the USA." At the bottom of the video you will see two sets of captions - English captions that provide the lyrics to the song, and ASL captions that provide Torrence's interpretation. Hopefully this sheds light on why last week, it was difficult for me to share things that my students at Lexington had signed to me. I wanted to retain what they had truly meant in their own language, but provide you all with the English interpretation so that you understood it.

Thanks for posting this! It definitely helped me understand a little bit better what you've been describing. I couldn't see the subtitles/captions at first, but figured it out - I had to click on the pop-up icon at the bottom of the youtube screen with the arrow in it to turn on CC. Might want to let your other readers know just in case! Have a great weekend girl, xo
