seriously...i'm bummed.

You guys, I just want to get one thing straight. I love Ellen. In fact, you could say I'm even obsessed with her. She cracks me up, she gives away millions of dollars to help people in need, she's quirky, she is in a loving, healthy, admirable relationship, she is relatable and compassionate, and she handles herself with utmost dignity (as shown in this this video).

So, it saddens me to say anything negative about Ellen, but here it is: Her book, Seriously...I'm Kidding...seriously kind of sucked. It seems like its going to be a memoir but then  as you read even just the first few pages, you start to get the feeling that...she just kind of sat there...and typed up whatever random things she could come up with.

Ellen cracks me up. But apparently her humor only reaches me through the television. She is very PG and a lot of her humor is based on light puns but when reading her words on a page...she falls kind of flat. A lot of her chapters were random "jokes" about how a day in the life of a celebrity looks or how obsessed with image we are. That was the thing - I liked her intentions. She is ridiculously positive and cheery even when she is trying to make fun of something or someone.

I think what disappointed me was that this book brought nothing new. I see Ellen's funny interviews and commercials and tweets and it's all on an even playing field. After reading Mindy's book, I think I wanted the same experience with Ellen - a deeper look at her life while still maintaining the wit and silliness that we already love about her.

Ellen didn't bring that. Nonetheless, I don't mind that I read the book or that I own it. That's what happens when you're kind of a relentless fan. Besides, I didn't pay for the book anyway and it took me maybe three days to read. If you're interested in checking it out, I suggest reading it as a transition book between two books that are substantial and complicated. It won't require much (any) thinking but may garner a laugh or two.

Thank you for your honesty! I've been contemplating reading this because I love Ellen as well, but I think I'll save my $10 for the Nook download and get something else.
