the 4th.

The 4th of July is my favorite holiday.

While, of course, I love America, I don't love Independence Day for patriotic reasons (does this make me a bad citizen?). Really, I just love that the 4th of July is a holiday that we all celebrate but with no pressure. Don't get me wrong, I simply adore Thanksgiving and Christmas - being cozied up with my family and eating delicious food and just generally remembering to appreciate all my blessings in life. But with the 4th of July, the pressure is off. There is no gift-giving, no dealing with airport madness or traffic frenzy to get to our parents' houses, no laboring in the kitchen for big group dinners. Rather, the 4th of July is a day that everybody (hopefully) has off from work, a day to throw on your bathing suit and sunscreen, a day to lay out by the pool or on the beach, enjoy some refreshing beverages and grilled goodies, and to just generally pay tribute to the glory that is summer.

Also, fireworks are awesome.

I hope your 4th was as relaxing and wonderful as mine was.
