January 02, 2012

so far, a blissful year.

As I said goodbye to 2011 and kindly greeted 2012, I couldn't help but be less focused on resolutions and more focused on just how blessed I am.

The Phish concert on New Year's Eve was amazing - the music was great, we all got to sit together, and the countdown to midnight was insane. In the moments leading into 2012, it looked as if a heckler was trying to climb up on stage when all of the sudden he was hoisted into the air on a cable line and remained suspended in the air to dance to the rest of the song. A series of other people were then plucked out of the audience and raised from the crowd as well, hoisted up with jet-packs and cable lines and crazy dance moves. It. Was. Awesome.

When midnight hit (a minute late, actually), hundreds of balloons fell from the ceiling and from where we were sitting, we got to enjoy a spectacular visual sight. The night was fun and flawless.

Then, this morning, we slept in and made a big breakfast for our friends who stayed over. My group of college girlfriends and I have been doing Secret Santa exchanges over the years (we actually call it Secret Maccabees since half of us are Jewish...) and today was the day to open our gifts. Since we are spread out across the country and have to now mail our gifts rather than open them together, we started a "Hangout" on Google+ where we could all catch up via videochat and open our gifts together. We talked for more than two hours and it was such a blast. I couldn't help but appreciate how the new year was starting - with special people, laughter, and so much love.

So, 2011 ended well, and 2012 began simply but wonderfully. Rather than focus on resolutions (ok, I really do need to get back to the gym...) I'm looking around me with a smile on my face and appreciating the fact that my cup runneth over.
