president's day.

Three of the girls in my class have been reading a book about George Washington and Abraham Lincoln in honor of President's Day. The other day, I did a little review with one of the girls because the other two were absent so I didn't want to start a new book just yet. I gave her a paper pamphlet that had a few facts about each of these two presidents - which wars they fought in, when they were presidents, whether or not they lived in the White House, etc. While reading, she suddenly told me (in case I didn't know) that Abraham Lincoln died because someone shot him. I told her I knew and that it was very sad. She then proceeded to tell me,

"future why me president me say all none gun-shoot none"
("This is why I will be president someday. I will tell everyone: no more guns.")

I told her that she could be America's first deaf president and that she would certainly have my vote. Bless her heart.

Happy President's Day, kiddos.
